Kevin's Story
From terrifying fear of failure to embracing his path supporting others' financial success

What was your initial motivation for coaching?
"I was planning a move down to Florida and I thought this is a chance to really become something that I never thought I’d be because I’ll just be starting everything from scratch. People kept proposing things I could do and I kept saying no. I knew I needed someone who could pull the ideas out of me."

What was holding you back from going out on your own?

And what do you think was the biggest sticking point we had to overcome?
“Money was always the first thing that came up but underneath that was the idea of being a disappointment or failing myself or others. I was so afraid of royally screwing up and then not only impacting myself, but also my wife and future children.”“It took coaching with you to actually look at all the pieces and say: This is what I have saved up. This is what I have behind me. This is what I can do. What happens if I really, really screw up? And I got to actually visualize the process of that happening, and it wasn’t that bad at all.”

What was the most impactful session we had?
"The one we called 'Experimenting with My Hospitality Event'.

What do you feel like you've gained through the coaching process?
"So much of our work together was about taking a deep dive into what is real, what is concrete. Because so much of this was in my head, and it was very up in the air in the sky. And by bringing it down to earth and actually putting real numbers, real dollars in front of me like you did, that was a huge huge win.”“I now see that by my nature I’m very valuable to people and that helped me realize that if I just find a career path that is fulfilling to me, I’ll be able to be myself more authentically and that will snowball. I want to spend time talking to people who have done similar things and taken similar leaps into entrepreneurship. I want to keep making connections with these people to understand what they did and how I can do that myself. And I really want to give myself the time and freedom to mess up and to do it over again and to just keep trying new things without worrying about failure."

And what was your biggest coaching win?
"Putting in my resignation for one of my main jobs, which was with a toxic business partner who made my life very unhappy and stressful. I kept resisting leaving because the payout had the potential to be huge and you would encourage me to go out on my own. I kept pushing back and saying no but it was solely because of our conversations that I had the power to leave because I was confident enough in myself and in my future that I could let go of this crutch that was leaning me towards a future I didn’t want to be a part of."

Finally, what would your advice be to others who were in your position?
“I would definitely say be willing to take a leap, and that doesn’t necessarily mean take a leap into starting the business. That means take a leap towards understanding yourself and getting to know what you’re capable of. Because if you start something without the confidence that you need, without the understanding of who you are, without the real rounded idea of what you can do, I think that it won’t get you very far most times. But if you’re able to get with someone like Brooke and you’re able to have that kind of dialogue where you’re able to have someone sort through all the pieces with you to understand yourself better, that is the number one key to success.”
