Jess' Story
From uncertainty and fear of being seen to connecting people with the powerful healing resources they need

What was your initial motivation for coaching?
"I just feel so much different now after my time with you in such a positive way. But back then, I just felt really stuck, you know? I knew that I needed a change. I knew that my current work situation wasn’t the right fit anymore, and that I wasn’t very aligned with what I was doing. I was so frustrated with myself that I didn’t have my next steps clearly in mind. So I just felt very insecure and stuck."

What was holding you back from going out on your own?

And what do you think was the biggest sticking point we had to overcome?
"Perfectionism. Just that tendency of wanting to have everything perfectly cinched up and beautiful in this perfectly bound up case or business plan. You have a such a gentle but assertive style and you didn’t let me stay in that over-thinking place for long. You helped guide me to act and carry out some little experiments to discover what I really wanted and was capable of."

What was the most impactful session we had?
"If I had to choose one specific session, I think it would be the one where you helped me identify that I was a connector. I didn’t want to be just one thing like a yoga instructor, but you helped me see, “well, Jess, you’re a connector of people though, so maybe your role isn’t leading the class, but bringing people and all of the pieces together to make that happen.”And that really helped release some of the stuckness that I felt because all of a sudden I thought, “Oh, I can see that vision for myself.” You helped me see that for myself."

What do you feel like you've gained through the coaching process?
"You helped me identify my strengths and natural talents that I had previously overlooked or just kind of dismissed, and you were able to draw them out really gently and thoughtfully for consideration. In those moments of looking at these things in a new light and welcoming that exploration, I felt like some of those things were almost brand new."
-
And what was your biggest coaching win?
"My biggest win has just been sticking with it and being open and trusting. I think it would have been very easy for me to just throw in the towel and say, “I see some value here but I don’t see it all connected yet” and just dismiss it.I’m proud of myself for saying “I trust Brooke and I trust what she’s doing here. And even if I can’t connect 1, 2, and 3 yet, I know it’s leading towards something really valuable and insightful.” And as somebody that is quite a control freak and likes to have everything outlines, I think I’m proud of myself for being able to surrender to that.”

Finally, what would your advice be to others who were in your position?
"The first thing would be that what you are experiencing is not abnormal and that it’s natural to have seasons in life of transition. Even if you got all of the degrees and worked so hard for whatever it is, it’s OK to make a shift. And it’s also OK not to know what the next step is, but there is so much value that comes from working with somebody like you to really help make that scary transition just a little bit steadier. It’s OK to reach out for some support and professional guidance through this time. It’s just such a valuable experience and time spent.Going through coaching, I feel so much lighter. Do I always have the immediate next step right in front of me? Not necessarily, but I have so much more clarity on the important things. And I’m just so grateful."
