What was your initial motivation for coaching?
"I was kind of at a breaking point. I was staying with friends, I was unhappy in my job, but I felt more stuck than ever in my job because I felt like I really needed one thing that was secure in giving me that steady level of income even though it deeply pained me to be there.I was embarrassed that I had been working there for over 8 years. I felt like I had so much more to offer, and I just needed to rebuild my life.I needed someone to help me gather all those thoughts and ideas I have to figure out what the next thing is, and I was not sure if that was gonna be another full time job."

What was holding you back from going out on your own?
"I wanted to be working for myself, but I literally had no idea how that could be humanly possible. Like, I couldn’t even fathom it. I was so bought into the matrix of “You have to have this job with the security, with the 401K, with this health care” that I could not see anything beyond it, and I was scared."

And what do you think was the biggest sticking point we had to overcome?
"Perfectionism. That’s my kryptonite in every area of my life probably.I think I got stuck in perfectionism because I’m the kind of person that really needs to understand something. I have to turn over every stone to really understand how something works. When starting a business, I felt like I needed to get clear on what it was I was offering and how I was gonna make money. And I kept getting caught in well, I don’t have it sorted out yet, and I don’t feel ready. And it was kind of this trap that I kept getting caught in for sure."

What was the most impactful session we had?
"The session we called 'Calculating Revenue Streams'. You showed me the breakdown of money that would be assigned to a project or a client, and how many hours that required and how many projects were needed per month to make a certain amount of money. I had never looked at it that way. A big part of this for me was having money and security. So seeing the value for the services or the products tied to the amount of money and the time was huge. And then things started to shift for me because I was like, “Oh OK, I can see this. I understand it.” I see how much I am doing for my employer, and I’m making the same amount. They keep tacking on more and more, and I don’t make more and more. I don’t get more and more help. So why couldn’t I just channel that towards these things?” The way this information was presented visually to me in that breakdown helped."

What do you feel like you've gained through the coaching process?
"When I was able to remove some of my self-doubt and trust myself more, the perfectionism voice began to dissipate. Finally, the situation at work got more intensified and I think I was able to throw my hands up and say, I can’t do this anymore because I trusted I could do something else. I remember calling my parents being like, I can’t do this anymore. I can’t work here anymore. I’m done. And the next thing I said was, “I will figure it out. I know that I will. That’s who I am.”By working with you, I realized all the things that I can offer people that are valuable and that they will pay for.You helped me have more self-trust, which overcame my doubt, which made the voice of perfectionism disappear, and it was more that I believe in my future than I believe in my past."
-
And what was your biggest coaching win?
"The fact that I left my job and I’m doing what I’m doing. We had set deadlines together about when I would leave and start my business but I didn’t trust myself that they would actually happen. But now I’m looking at what we said, and I did the things I wanted to.I really didn’t believe it at the time but something about your coaching and the way you record it visually with the graphics that you send afterwards, it does stick with you. It does shift things, subconsciously, and that’s proof that I did do all these things by May."

Finally, what would your advice be to others who were in your position?
"Honestly, work with Brooke. I think having a coach is powerful. I needed someone that was listening to what I was sharing and synthesizing it to hold me accountable. You told me that it takes 10-12 sessions and there were a lot of times where I was like, I don’t know if this is going to work. But I stuck with it. And you were very gentle about it and encouraged me to keep going. I think you just have to want something bad enough and realize it’s going to work out. But I think I actually got there because you removed a lot of the self doubt for me.There’s so much power in working with someone and processing things, otherwise, we get lost in our thoughts, and it doesn’t actually have forward momentum."
